Vimala (Bimala) Temple, Puri

Located deep within the inner courtyard of the world-famous Jagannath Temple complex in Puri, Odisha, the Vimala (Bimala) Temple is a shrine of immense spiritual gravity. Recognized as one of the four supreme Adi Shakti Peethas, it is the sacred site where the feet (Pada) of Goddess Sati fell.

The Significance & The Mahaprasad Connection

Goddess Vimala is considered the presiding energy and the guardian deity of the Jagannath Temple complex (which is also the eastern anchor of the supreme All-India Char Dham Yatra). Her supreme authority is highlighted by a unique and ancient tradition: the food offered to Lord Jagannath does not officially become Mahaprasad until it is subsequently offered to Goddess Vimala. For Shakta devotees, darshan at Puri is considered incomplete without seeking her blessings.

Exact Darshan Timings

Since the temple is located within the Jagannath Temple complex, it follows similar operational hours.

  • Morning Darshan: 5:30 AM to 1:00 PM
  • Afternoon Break: 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM
  • Evening Darshan: 4:00 PM to 11:00 PM (Note: Timings are subject to change during major festivals like Rath Yatra and Durga Puja).

Best Time to Visit

The most powerful time to visit the Vimala Temple is during the Durga Puja festival (September/October). Unlike the main Jagannath temple, animal sacrifice (offered secretly before dawn) is part of the specific Tantric rituals performed here during the 16 days of Sharadiya Durga Puja.
